Name: 2027 Canstruction® Jr. Competition
Date: February 1, 2027
Time: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Discovery Park of America will host its ninth annual Canstruction Jr. competition, where students ages 10 to 18 can put their creativity and teamwork to the test while helping stomp out hunger in the community. This year’s Canstruction Jr. theme is “The Cans Before Time.” Teams will have three hours to transform canned food into a creative, three-dimensional sculpture. After construction, sculptures will be judged in several categories, including Best of Show, Best Use of Labels, Most Creative, Structural Ingenuity, Best Meal and Judge’s Favorite. The finished sculptures will remain on exhibit in the ATA Room through February. Participating teams will also receive a free lunch. Canstruction® is an international charity competition where architects, engineers, students, and others compete by building structures out of canned food. At the end of each competition or exhibition, the food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. It was founded in 1992 by the late Cheri Melillo and her colleagues from the Society for Design Administration. The first official competition was held in November 1993. Since then, over 50 million pounds of food have been donated. More information, including a list of other exhibits and events, can be found at www.canstruction.org.
