Red Cross Sheltering Fundamentals Training Join the Red Cross Disaster Shelter Team. Unite with friends, fellow church members, family, and neighbors to join the Red Cross Disaster Shelter Team for your community. Together, you will set up cots, serve meals, distribute hygiene items, monitor activities, and help to create a temporary home away from home for families at a Red Cross Shelter during difficult times. When people think about disaster relief, they often think of shelters – a warm, safe place for individuals and families to go when their home has been threatened or destroyed by fire, flood, or other disaster. The Red Cross counts on local partners to shelter the community.
